Day 3

This was a “pack up, grab some more food at the Miyagawa Morning Market, then take the train onwards” day.

The Airbnb was really great! It reminded me of how things were years ago before the quality of places started to drop.

(If you are returning to Tokyo, you can just take the reverse of one of the routes mentioned in Day 1). Our route to Kyoto was similar to the following:

Takayama (高山) → Kyoto (京都) (25 Nov 2019)
Takayama (高山) (11:32) Nagoya (名古屋) (14:04)
2h 32m via Hida 8
Nagoya (名古屋) (14:19) Kyoto (京都) (15:12)
51m via Hikari 643
3h 40m total

Food

Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan
Review I already got a bird-shaped mochi here the day before, and when I saw the stall again I…stopped to get another one HAHA. The stallkeeper recognized us! He let us take a photo of the mochi on display along with his huge bird plush. Cute! (Of course, the mochi was delicious).
Verdict: 5/5 — Though it hurts to eat things that are cute.

STREAMER COFFEE COMPANY @ Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan
Review We came here to get a drink while waiting for the train as a joke (as Lucy is a YouTuber), but the coffee was actually pretty good. I guess it is a chain though, so it’s not thaaat special. (As of May 2020 it seems like this location is permanently closed :c )
Verdict: 4/5 — A stream of just watching coffee brew.

Other Shops of Note

Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan
Review Souvenir store that also carried the shiitake tea. I guess it’s more like mushroom soup than tea, but, semantics.
Verdict: -/5 — Sarubobo dolls for days
Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan
Review One of the clothing shops that boasts locally made patterns and fabrics. Yan bought a tote bag here that lasted him through the trip carrying all sorts of random heavy things. They’re a little expensive but they seem to be quite durable while being aesthetic.
Verdict: -/5 — Yan approved
Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan
Review While it doesn’t have the same feel of tradition and timelessness as Goto in Furukawa, this store still carries a large selection of local beers and sakes, including the yuzu sake and beers we were looking for.
Verdict: -/5 — Lucy liked the fact that they packed in blue ice with the beer, and the wrapper has penguins on it.
